What does CTW mean?

CTW stands for "carat total weight," which is the combined weight of all diamonds or gemstones in a piece.

What does carat mean?

Carat refers to the weight of a single diamond or gemstone, with 1 carat equal to 200 milligrams.

Can I buy a setting without buying a diamond or gemstone?

At Ecksand, we usually offer complete designs. You can use our Diamond Ring Builder to choose both a setting and a diamond that suits your preferences. However, if you already have a diamond or a gemstone, contact sales@ecksand.com to see if we’re able to set your stone with one of our ring settings. Please note that this is not always possible, and would depend on the stone you have and ring setting you desire.

Can I put a jewel on hold?

Since our jewels are handcrafted to order, we do not offer holds. Each creation is made just for you when you're ready to purchase.

Can I select a diamond that is not in your inventory?

Our inventory is updated in real time, but if you can’t find what you’re looking for through our Diamond Ring Builder, contact sales@ecksand.com.

What if I want a center stone shape that is not offered for that setting?

The Diamond Ring Builder allows you to select different center stone shapes. For custom requests, contact sales@ecksand.com.

Can Ecksand send me additional images of the rings or a ring stack?

Yes, simply contact us at sales@ecksand.com for more images or ring stack visuals.

Where are Ecksand’s natural diamonds from?

As a first-tier dealer, we acquire our diamonds straight from the mines and cutting facilities we have strong relationships with. We individually select diamonds from 100% conflict-free mines that comply with the UN resolutions and the Kimberley Process scheme. Ecksand only sources diamonds from mines that are governed by strict, formal labour laws that ensure appropriate work conditions and prohibit child labour, among other standards, which ensure each Ecksand diamond is entirely ethically sourced. We go beyond the Kimberley Process to ensure we source stones from suppliers that actively take part in social economic redistribution, such as building hospitals or reinvesting in land conservation.

Does Ecksand have Canadian-branded diamonds?

Ecksand carries Canadian-branded diamonds with GIA certification.

Are Canadian diamonds better than other Ecksand diamonds?

The benefit of owning an Ecksand Canadian diamond versus a diamond from Botswana or Australia is having the Canadian brand associated with it. We believe that all Ecksand diamonds have the same ethical value whether it’s from Canada, Australia or Botswana. As all Ecksand jewelry are proudly handcrafted in our high-end Montreal Canadian atelier, we feel that is of utmost importance that you have a Canadian made ring crafted with ethical diamonds as the perfect ensemble for you.

Why diamonds from Africa?

At Ecksand, we are extremely conscious of the impact we have in the world. That's why we only acquire our diamonds from mines that share the same values as we do. Botswana has tied together its diamond wealth to invest in the future of the country and its people. GDP and standards of living for the people of Botswana are rising because the government, who owns a portion of the diamond production industry, puts this money back into the economy. In this way, Ecksand supports an ethical diamond production, social redistribution, and ensures that every Ecksand diamond is a 100% ethical diamond. Learn more about Ecksand.

How do I care for my Ecksand jewels?

Keep your jewelry in great condition without the use of any harsh chemicals to keep our water supply clean and your jewels sparkling with happiness. Cleaning your Ecksand jewelry at home has never been easier!

Step One: Grab your supplies. These are easy supplies you’ll find at home - no venturing to the store is required. You need:

  • Soft bristle toothbrush
  • Eco-friendly mild soap
  • A clean empty cup

Step Two: Mix warm water with a few drops of soap in the cup.

Step Three: Dip the toothbrush in the mixture and gently brush your diamond or gemstone engagement ring, making sure to go under and around the stones and setting. You can repeat this process 2-3 times for extra brilliance. Lastly, rinse your jewel with warm water and pat it dry with a soft microfiber cloth.

Worth noting: Do not attempt this over a sink with an open drain to avoid the risk of dropping the jewelry into the drain.
