The shape naturally emphasises proportion. A length-to-width ratio between 1.30 and 1.50 produces the classic elongated silhouette most associated with this cut. A ratio closer to 1.20 yields a squarer profile with the same architectural character. Neither is incorrect. Both reflect a specific kind of intention.

Choosing Clarity and Proportion
The open table of a step-cut diamond reveals what a brilliant-cut conceals. Inclusions that would disappear beneath the facet play of a round stone are visible in an emerald cut. For this reason, Ecksand's gemmologists recommend a clarity grade of VS1 or above when selecting an emerald-cut centre stone, though the higher the better.

All emerald-cut diamonds at the Maison are graded by GIA or IGI and accompanied by their respective certificate. The certificate confirms the stone's measurements, proportions, clarity grade, and colour grade. Emerald-Cut Settings at Ecksand
The geometry of the emerald cut is versatile. Its flat edge and angular silhouette complement a range of setting architectures, each producing a distinct effect.
A solitaire setting amplifies the cut without interruption. Clean lines, a single stone, no distraction. For buyers drawn to architectural precision, it is the most direct expression of the shape's character.
A halo setting softens the angular outline and adds perceived surface area. The surrounding pavé diamonds create contrast against the step-cut's stillness, producing a ring with greater presence on the hand.
A three-stone setting places the emerald cut at centre with flanking stones that elongate the overall silhouette. Side stones in a complementary shape or a contrasting brilliant cut both work with the emerald cut's proportions.
A bezel setting encloses the stone's bevelled corners in a continuous metal frame. This is a considered choice for active wear, offering additional protection to the corners where step-cut diamonds are most vulnerable.

Natural emerald-cut diamonds are geologically formed over millions of years. Each stone is unique, with characteristic inclusions that serve as a fingerprint of its formation.
Lab-grown emerald-cut diamonds are created in controlled environments that replicate natural conditions. The result is a stone with identical properties at a more attainable price point, without compromise to quality or certification standards.
Across both options, ethical sourcing is consistent. Stones are conflict-free, set in solid gold of recycled origin or sustainable platinum, and crafted under the Canadian National Mark at the Maison's Montreal atelier.
The Right Wedding Band for an Emerald-Cut Ring
The emerald cut's flat, geometric profile creates a specific consideration when pairing a wedding band. On a lower setting, a straight band will typically leave a visible gap at the sides of the setting where the ring and band meet though a standard or higher-set stone will allow most wedding rings to sit flush. For low settings, a contoured or curved band follows the geometry of the setting more cleanly, eliminating that gap.
A pavé or micropavé band adds brilliance alongside the step-cut stone without competing with its character.
