On the streets that have seen it all, Toronto is the kind of city that rewards those who know where to look. Home to our Yorkville flagship store, the settings worth proposing in tend to be the ones locals return to on their own time: a conservatory that holds its warmth through February, a lookout most visitors walk straight past, a garden tucked behind a castle.

Six places, each paired with an engagement ring from our atelier chosen to match the setting.

1. The Distillery District

Before your mind goes to its famous Christmas market, remember that the Distillery District is a place steeped in heritage in the heart of downtown. Forty-seven Victorian buildings, cobblestone underfoot, and brick that has been standing since the 1860s reflect the commitment you’re about to embark on together. Our team recommends going on a weekday morning when the light moves down Trinity Street at the angle photographers plan their day around. The scale is human, the architecture is original, and the result is a place you’ll come back to over the years that will never change.

The ring: Vintage Three-Stone Engagement Ring. An emerald-cut centre stone framed by tapered side diamonds, finished with the kind of detail that reads as heritage rather than costume. It belongs against 1860s brick.

2. Allan Gardens Conservatory

Six greenhouses, more than 16,000 square feet of glass, and open year-round. The Palm House dates to 1910 and holds its humidity straight through a Toronto February, which makes this one of the few places in the city where a winter proposal happens among orchids and palms. Weekday mornings are the calmest, and the light through the dome does most of the work for you.

The ring: Engagement Ring with Eagle Prongs and Side Diamonds. Six eagle claws open around the centre stone like a bloom, with accent diamonds tapering along a slender 1.7 mm band. Available in ten centre-stone shapes across four golds, so it adapts to almost any style preference.

3. The Gardens at Casa Loma

The estate gardens open from May through October, and most visitors photograph the front of the castle and leave. We invite you to walk past it. Behind the house, the paths drop through the Secret Garden and the Pool Terrace toward a view the 1914 architecture frames for you. Come in the early evening, once the tours have gone.

The ring: Dynasty Three-Stone Old Mine Diamond Engagement Ring with Hidden Halo. Dynasty is built around Old Mine diamonds, shaped by hand before industrial standards existed, reset into contemporary architecture. Heritage stone in a modern setting, at a house that does the same thing.

4. Chester Hill Lookout

It wouldn’t be a Toronto proposal guide without honouring the iconic city skyline. One of our team’s favourites is a small clearing at the end of Chester Hill Road in Broadview North, above the bend where the Don Valley opens west toward the skyline. No signage, no parking lot, no admission, but yours to discover. This is where proud Toronto east-enders bring people they want to impress, and at sunset the CN Tower sits in the frame with room to breathe around it.

The ring: Dynasty East-West Old Mine Diamond Solitaire Engagement Ring with Twisted Compass Prong Setting and Hidden Halo. The stone is set east to west and held by compass prongs. Orientation is the whole point, which suits a place chosen for its skyline.

5. The Gardens at Liberty Grand

Exhibition Place, Beaux-Arts, 1926. Most think of Liberty Grand as a wedding venue, but its gardens hold a secret that, if you know, you know. In late April and early May, you can discover a stand of your own personal cherry trees, far from the hustle of High Park with only a fraction of the crowd. The columns, symmetry, and heritage architecture blossom in a single frame, much like the Maison’s Blossom collection itself, which we recommend for this proposal.

The ring: Diamond Engagement Ring with Six Side Diamonds. Six accent diamonds gather around the centre stone in graduated sizes, the signature gesture of our Blossom collection.

6. The Toronto Islands

It's hard to visit the Toronto Islands and not have it take your breath away, naturally rendering it one of the city’s most picturesque proposal destinations. While popular, there are numerous private vantage points to pop the question, all with a unique perspective that you can fine-tune to best honour your connection. Fifteen minutes by ferry from Jack Layton Terminal, and the city rearranges itself behind you on your way across the water. Stroll around Ward’s Island for the boardwalk and the cottage lanes, and visit Hanlan’s Point for the west-facing beach and the sunset.

The ring: Bezel-Set Solitaire Diamond Engagement Ring with Secret Heart. A full bezel holds the oval stone flush and secure, and beneath it, a hand-sculpted heart, visible only to the two of you. Much like the view you’ll have of the Island from that day forward.
