Pavé Emerald Cut Engagement Rings
The emerald cut diamond engagement ring occupies a distinct position in fine jewellery. Its step-cut facets produce a measured, architectural light, a hall-of-mirrors effect that rewards the eye through proportion and depth rather than facet-driven brilliance. It is a considered choice, and it calls for a setting that understands it. In Ecksand's Montreal atelier, the pavé emerald cut ring is approached as a study in balance: a continuous band of accent diamonds that introduces luminosity along the shank without drawing attention away from the open-table geometry of the centre stone.
The Architecture of the Pavé Emerald Cut Ring
The emerald cut diamond reads through clarity and proportion. Its elongated rectangular silhouette and broad table make inclusions more visible than in brilliant-cut stones, which is precisely why Ecksand's gemmologists select each centre stone with the step-cut facet pattern in mind. Where brilliant cuts scatter light in every direction, the emerald cut holds it, turning the interior of the diamond into something closer to a corridor of reflection.
A pavé band works with this geometry rather than against it. The small accent diamonds set flush along the shank generate a continuous shimmer that travels beside the centre stone, deepening the ring's presence without competing with its lines. The linear silhouette of the emerald cut is preserved. The pavé adds depth. Under the creative direction of Erica Bianchini, pavé setting at the Maison is treated as a craft decision: a deliberate counterpoint to the restraint of the step-cut centre, chosen for its architectural relationship to the stone, not as a decorative default.
The Collection
Ecksand's pavé emerald cut engagement rings are available in 14k and 18k yellow and white gold, and 14k rose gold of recycled origin, as well as sustainable platinum. Each ring in the collection can be set with a GIA certified natural diamond or an IGI certified lab-grown diamond, with stone selection guided by the Maison's in-house gemmologists to ensure each emerald cut diamond performs at its best.
Pavé Setting Styles Within the Collection
Not all pavé bands read the same way against an emerald cut centre stone. The Maison offers distinct pavé configurations, each producing a different visual result.
The classic découpe pavé features a seamless thread of small diamonds set closely together along the band, creating a refined, continuous shimmer that complements the clean geometry of an emerald cut diamond without overpowering it. Available in both half and full eternity styles, half eternity pavé carries the diamonds across the upper portion of the band while leaving the underside polished for added practicality and comfort in everyday wear. Full eternity pavé extends the diamonds completely around the band, offering uninterrupted brilliance from every angle and a more fully illuminated profile on the hand.
Bright cut pavé introduces a more structured finish through the addition of a fine line of metal framing the edge of each stone. This subtle border creates a crisp, squared silhouette along the band that pairs particularly well with the precise linear character of an emerald cut centre stone. The result is a clean, more architectural expression of pavé with slightly stronger definition and contrast.
Micro-pavé uses exceptionally small diamonds set in three fine rows along the band, producing a delicate surface of continuous light and heightened sparkle. The tighter spacing and smaller scale of the stones create a more intricate appearance, adding luminosity and texture while maintaining a refined overall profile beside the emerald cut’s broad, understated facets.
The Maison's client advisors offer guidance on pavé choices relative to stone size and personal discernment, both in-boutique and through virtual appointments.
Choosing Your Centre Stone
The emerald cut diamond engagement ring places unusual demands on the stone at its centre. Step-cut facets display clarity characteristics openly. Where a brilliant-cut diamond might conceal a small inclusion beneath its pattern of light, the emerald cut's broad, unbroken table makes those characteristics visible to the eye. For this reason, higher clarity grades are generally recommended for step-cut settings.
Ecksand's gemmologists select emerald cut diamonds specifically for their performance within the step-cut facet pattern: stones with strong transparency, clean tables, and consistent proportions that sustain the hall-of-mirrors effect the cut is known for. Each natural diamond is GIA certified. IGI certified lab-grown diamond options carry the same standard of certification, and the same gemmological rigour applies to their selection.
Natural and lab-grown diamonds are available across the Maison's emerald cut collection, with full certification documentation provided.
