The Benefits of Carpooling
There are many benefits of carpooling. Not only does carpooling save you money, but it is also good for the environment. At Ecksand, we love to do our part to make the world more eco-friendly, so we have highlighted five of the top reasons you should consider carpooling.
1. It can save you money
Whether you are the driver or a passenger, being part of a carpool will save you money. Instead of everyone paying for their own tank of gas, you can split the total amongst the group. A good way to determine how much each person should pay is to work out how much gas is used to drive to and from work each week. If the total distance equals one tank of gas, divide the cost of a tank by the people in the car.
2. Reduce stress
Carpooling is a great way to reduce stress. Our lives are so busy that sometimes we forget to take a few minutes and talk to our friends about hobbies and things we enjoy. Think of carpool as your social time. You can chat about your weekend plans, discuss current events, or just sing along to whatever is being played on the radio. Even if you are not overly close with the members of your carpool in the beginning, within a couple of weeks you’ll be great pals.
3. Reduce commute time
Many cities offer special lanes for drivers commuting with one or more passengers. Because of the reduced amount of people using these lanes, commutes can be dramatically reduced.
4. Benefits the environment
This is probably our favourite benefit of carpooling at Ecksand. By reducing the number of cars on the road, we reduce the amount of pollution that is being put into the atmosphere. If you commute in a full car, that means 4 fewer vehicles on the road. Imagine the impact if everyone took the same initiative?
5. It’s good for your car
Carpooling is a great way to prolong the life of your car. By being part of a carpool you are putting less mileage on your car each day which can result in it lasting longer. This not only helps your wallet, but the environment. If our cars last longer, we need to buy them less frequently and thus reducing the amount of scraps that end up in our landfills.
Carpooling etiquette
Now that you know why carpooling is such a great idea, there are a couple of things you should keep in mind in order for things to run smoothly.
- Have a dedicated pick-up and drop-off location
- Respect everyone’s time and be on time
- Have a dedicated day when gas money is due and always pay on time
- Alternate who gets the front seat and who changes the radio station.
- Respect the driver
